So New Zealand the Govt want to tackel the manufacturing, distribution and use of P in our country. What are your thoughts on the methods they intend to use in this battle.
1. Restricting access to the precursor chemicals P is made from, pseudoephedrine only avaliable on prescription. 2. Use new powers to break drug supply chains by attacking the gangs and criminal organisations that make, supply and distribute P. 3. Ensure more P addicts get the treatment they need to quit by providing more treatment capacity and better routes into treatment. 4. Support families and communities to stop people from becoming P users in the first place. 5. Provide the leadership needed to ensure that government agencies charged with the responsibility for tackling P get results. It all sounds good in theory, but what are your thoughts. I guess they have to start somewhere? |

point 2-recently the Maori party flew gang participants to a meeting. WTF! Is this the government working with the underground?!?! All whilst law abiding citizens that never do anything wrong get treated like....well I shouldn't post it here.
point 4-there are always community support groups out there, however I think the problem is volunteering to go and seek support. I don't know. Something needed to change and I think it is a good thing that drugs like pseudoephedrine are prescribed first. Yes, it will be a pain in the bum but it will reduce the risk. |

These things seem OK on the surface, but your points 1 and 2 need questioning.
Point 1 (making it so pseudoephedrine is only available on prescription) is a ludicrous move. It just makes for far more expense for people who want to get pseudoephedrine for things other than making P.. Government bureaucrats always lack the power to reason and don't seem to realise that everybody who buys or seeks pseudoephedrine is not going to use it to make P. It is another case of the government treating us like naughty children and assuming that we always have the worst of motives for doing anything. So now if you want to get pseudoephedrine (perhaps for headache or other pain) you now have to take time off work - losing money perhaps, go to a GP - paying another day's wages, persuade him to prescribe it for you ..... etc. etc. Also point 2 (Use new powers to break drug supply chains by attacking the gangs and criminal organisations that make, supply and distribute P. is questionable. Have these "new powers" been defined? Are they restricted in any way? Are they to be used for just what you have stated here? Or can they be used on any one of us, for any reason whatsoever, or even without a reason? We always have to be wary when government awards itself "new powers". Government has only ever two motives for doing anything that it does - ALWAYS. One motive is either to gain more power for itself, or the other motive is to gain more money and deprive the people of the money. |
