The Bill that I referred to back in November has come in Parliament again, and has "reared its ugly head".
Surprisingly there has been a dearth of publicity about this - almost as if parliament wants to "slip it through" unnoticed (but they wouldn't do that, would they? I mean it is too reminiscent of National's past performances - the "driving licence Bill" comes to mind. At least Labour were blatant about things and their attitude was "we will do what we want, and if you don't like it, tough!). Even with the lack of publicity about this, I will never cease to be amazed at people's seeming utter apathy - it's almost as if they WANT to be watched and searched. Do we have a country of masochists? Here is the latest: Scoop: Search and Surveillance Bill |

Personally I feel that the latest Justice &Electoral Interim report on Search& Surveillance Bill could undermine our private property rights on privacy when the police officer are given power to do a 24 hour day surveillance search at any time without consent of the owner or the purpose. This bill has some hidden secret at why they won't let the owners know they are searching the property. This bill intends to make the use of Video & Audio surveillance a primary used. I feel that this bill breach some part of the privacy law and Human Rights. If the government wants to pass the bill into law the only is instead listed the objections or view from opponents to enable them to get a feedback before it can get debated in Parliament. Let's hope the government will learn a lesson on the objections of opponents of the Search &Surveillance Bill.
