Default NZ police destroy couples' home and there's NO CONSEQUENCES for them, just the couple

Do we want our society to emulate American society where police go around indescriminately destroying, "throwing their weight around" and it being considered perfectly acceptable.

The most horrible thing about all this is the acceptance by the victim that they "had a right to do this": "Hutton said he understood the actions of the police, who entered the family home without permission".

The insurance company REFUSES to pay for the damage (when do insurance companies actually "do their jobs"?) because "the damage was the result of criminal activity". Well, of course it was, if they had "entered the family home without permission" it's clearly a criminal act. So clearly the perpetrators of that crime should be held accountable - who are the perpetrators? The police of course.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that the taxpayer should be responsible for the damage, the police PERSONALLY damaged the house, they should PERSONALLY pay for it. Do you think that if you were held liable for damage that you'd committed, you could get the taxpayer to pay for it?

Sid And Gael Hutton | Living Hell After Raid By... | Stuff.co.nz

An elderly couple say they have been forced to live in a motorhome after their insurance company refused to pay for their house to be made habitable after a police raid.

Sid Hutton says damage of more than $60,000 was done to their suburban Hamilton home when officers fired teargas and smashed their way into the three-bedroom property in search of son Mark, who has been charged with the commission of a crime with a firearm and is remanded in custody.
